Ingredients In Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Flour All-purpose flour works great, but you can swap in some wheat flour if youd like. The more wheat flour you swap in, the more the consistency of the bread will change.
Baking soda and baking powder Baking soda and baking powder act as the leavening agents in the bread. For best results, make sure they arent old or expired.
Salt Just a half teaspoon of salt will help all of the other flavors to pop!
Butter You will need one stick of butter cup. Make sure it is softened to room temperature.
Sugar We all know that banana bread is a little bit more like cake, so yes, you need sugar!
Eggs 2 large eggs are needed to bind all of the other ingredients together.
Vanilla extract Just a teaspoon of vanilla extract is needed. The higher the quality of the vanilla, the better!
Sour cream Just a half cup of sour cream provides a lot of the moisture in the bread. You can swap this out with plain or vanilla Greek yogurt if you want to add a little more protein.
Banana You will need 3 overripe bananas so that you can mash them up before adding to the batter.
Chocolate chips A cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips is all you need to add the perfect amount of chocolate to the banana bread.
Double Chocolate Banana Bread
Chocolate + banana + brownie/bread = a chocaholics dream come true. A moist banana bread with a soft chocolate crumb thanks to a couple of additions that makes it deliciously rich and decadent. A definite upgrade from a chocolate chip banana bread!
Chocolate banana bread is right up there with Chocolate Cake, and is pretty much a fail-proof recipe. If you love my fudgy brownies recipe, you will LOVE this one even more! Just read the reviews!
Keep Those Old Bananas
Use very ripe bananas, i.e. mushy bananas. You can tell a mushy banana by the color of the peel it should be browned or browning significantly and should feel soft when squeezed between your fingertips and will be very easy to mash with a fork. Mash bananas until they are a chunky applesauce consistency. Some texture is good in banana bread!

Hi Bold Bakers!
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread should be everyones comfort food! On their own, chocolate and banana are delicious but pair them together and they become something magical! The super sweetness of the very ripe bananas is toned down by the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Every bite of this homemade chocolate chip banana bread is somehow more delicious and comforting than the one before it
For my Essential Chocolate Chip Banana Bread recipe, I even opt to use a good quality chocolate bar instead of the chocolate chips, but you can definitely just use chocolate chips. It just really amps up the flavor and makes it feel somehow more mature.
Yes, I am a responsible adult. My taxes are done on time, and I eat banana bread with chocolate chunks.
That said, Im still down for chocolate chips in my banana bread because Ill take this recipe anyway I can get it! Did I mention it can also be made in the microwave? Keep reading.
What Youll Need To Make Chocolate Banana Bread
Be sure to use very ripe, brown bananas for the best banana flavor. To ripen bananas quickly, store them in a loosely sealed brown paper bag. If you have extra brown bananas, they freeze beautifully simply peel them and store them in a resealable bag in the freezer . Alternatively, bake more banana goodies straight away, like banana muffins or banana pancakes.
Also, note that the recipe calls for natural cocoa powder, not Dutch-process. These cocoa powders are not interchangeable. The acidity in natural cocoa powder activates the baking soda in the recipe and causes the batter to rise in the oven. Dutch-process cocoa powder has been treated with an alkali to neutralize its acidity and is therefore not acidic enough to activate the baking soda.

How To Make Chocolate Banana Bread

First, what makes this recipe different from most is we only use brown sugar in our bread to ensure it stays soft and moist with fudge-like consistency. The next ingredient to guarantee a soft crumb is a splash of cooking oil . Look familiar? We did the same in both of our brownie recipes!
Make sure youre using over-ripe bananas. The darker, the sweeter and the better it comes out!
Move rack to the middle of your oven before preheating. Grease a loaf pan with nonstick spray. We use a 9×5 inch pan.
Then get started on your batter.
Mash bananas in a large bowl. You can use a fork, potato masher, OR electric beaters to save time. Mix in melted butter, oil, egg, vanilla and brown sugar.Grab another bowl and whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder. Using a whisk saves you from sifting your dry ingredients, although you can sift them if you prefer.
The batter alone is CRAZY GOOD!
Stir the dry ingredients into the wet until just combined. Dont overmix the batter as it will make your bread chewy and dense.Fold in half of the chocolate chips. You can use semi-sweet, dark OR milk chocolate. The choice is yours. Throw in some chopped nuts too if you like!Pour batter into prepared pan and top with remaining chocolate chips.
Let cool in pan for 10 to 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

The Secret To Super Moist Banana Bread
The secret to getting moist chocolate chip banana bread is really just a couple simple ingredients. The main two being melted butter and Greek yogurt.
Using melted butter, as opposed to room temperature, helps to soaks up all the flour which gives you that smooth texture. The Greek yogurt adds even MORE moisture while still providing structure. Its my secret ingredient in so many of my dessert recipes.
Another reason why Greek yogurt works so well here is because its flavor. Greek yogurt is slightly sour which helps to balance out the sweetness of the bananas, chocolate, and sugar.
Its also very thick and contains less water than regular yogurt. This is the reason why I love baking with it so much, it provides tons of moisture without thinning the batter too much.
But if you dont have Greek yogurt available near you, sour cream will also do the trick.
We cant forget about the bananas. You have to add just enough to get that strong flavor but too much can turn your banana bread into banana pudding . Getting the perfect balance of flour, butter, yogurt and banana is the key to getting deliciously moist chocolate chip banana bread.

Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Get Ready You Guys Are Going To Be Obsessed
Weve been baking a LOT these days so lets get down to business shall we. This double chocolate chip banana bread is fantastic. Its made in 1 bowl, so super quick and easy. Its moist and chocolate-y and works for breakfast, snacks and dessert. And its obviously stuffed with plenty of chocolate chips because thats the only smart way to eat banana bread. Then its just into a loaf pan and into the oven for about an hour and voila! Easy right? Its genius if you ask me.
Its worth noting here that its best to use SUPER ripe bananas for this recipe. So ripe that there are black spots all over the usually yellow banana peels. That means the bananas are going to be sweet and mushy and easy to incorporate into the banana bread.
If you dont have overly ripe bananas, but you do have yellow bananas on hand, I like to pop them into the freezer for a day to turn them brown. Then just take them out, thaw them out and use for the banana bread as needed!

What You Need To Make This Recipe
Bananas you have to use overripe bananas for this to work. They should have brown and black spots all over and be soft so they are really easy to mash. Overripe bananas are extra sweet and soft making them perfect for baking with.
Vanilla use vanilla extract for a real vanilla taste and stay away from vanilla essence which is synthetic.
Butter softened butter is a must so bring it out of the fridge in advance. Its creamed together with the sugar and the only way to do that is by using softened, room-temperature butter.
Sugar I use granulated sugar for this but brown sugar will also work.
Chocolate chips I love to use semi-sweet chocolate chips because banana bread is already really sweet. If you want you can use bittersweet chocolate which will also be delicious or even milk chocolate if you dont mind the extra sweetness.
Salt even in sweet recipes salt is an important ingredient, you dont need much at all but it really enhances the flavors!

How To Make Cherry Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:
Drain your jar of maraschino cherries very well. Cut each cherry into quarters and pat them dry. Let them sit on paper towels until you need them.
Cream your butter, sugar, and extract until creamy. I love almond extract with cherries, so that is what I used this time, but feel free to use vanilla if you prefer that more.
Add the eggs, smashed bananas, and Greek yogurt and beat the mixture again. Feel free to substitute sour cream if you do not have any yogurt. Either one works and tastes delicious.
Sift together the dry ingredients and slowly mix them into the banana mixture.
Why do my mix-in’s always sink to the bottom of my banana bread? Stir a little bit of flour into the cherries. This will help keep them from sinking to the bottom of the bread as it bakes.
Bake the loaf until a toothpick or knife inserted in the center comes out with just a few sticky crumbs. Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes, then flip the bread out onto a plate to cool completely.
Drizzle the glaze over the top of the bread and let it set before you slice it. Or go ahead and eat it while the glaze is sticky and gooey. It’s pretty delicious that way.
I couldn’t get enough of this Cherry Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. It’s a good thing that there was only one loaf, and that I had people helping me eat it because I could have easily devoured the entire loaf by myself. Then my shorts and jeans would have been annoyed with me, and I would have had to run more miles.
