Actually, the Deli Style Rye was the first of the Canyon Bakehouse breads that I tried. Straight from the bag it was nice and soft. My husband said he could immediately notice the distinct Caraway flavor. Of course, when one mentions Rye bread, thoughts of a Reuben sandwich immediately come to mind. Rejoice, as being GF no longer means living without this sandwich! This bread only contains 70 calories and, like the rest of their sliced breads, has 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.

Making a wider loaf of bread isnt as easy as you think. Its not as simple as using a bigger pan. Gluten-free bread dough needs walls to climb up, to adhere too. Thats why most loaves are smaller. They bakers at Canyon Bakehouse put their heart, soul and energy into creating this Heritage Style line. They created two flavors so far Whole Grain and Honey White.

It tastes like bread!
I have thrown away my money on many gluten free breads, promising the taste and texture of gluten. Out of them all, including local bakeries, one leaves everyone in the dust. The first time I tried this I spit it out, in disbelief this was not gluten. I am celiac, so the pain is not worth it. When the waitress brought out the loaf to show me it’s gluten free, I devoured the sandwich. This bread is soft, with a perfect, glutenous crumb, and has a feint yeast background note. In other words…you could fool anyone with this bread! I fooled my family and friends. My husband regularly requests this bread instead of his gluten one. They also make a phenomenal bagel…chewy like it should be. I’m salivating thinking about my next shipment with Canyon Bakehouse bagels. These guys found the Holy Grail of gluten free baking. I don’t know what the secret it, but I really hope they thrive. What are you waiting for? Get some of this bread!

Best tasting GF bread…ever!
Didn’t know about this brand until I went on a cruise and requested gluten free. It tasted exactly like regular bread…so missed! The waiter brought the wrapper out for us to see. The mountain white is great, so are the raisin and rye. I have a freezer full now, and plan to continue to buy this. It is really such a treat to have bread with the same texture as wheat bread. Highly recommend!

My other big excitement was the focaccia bread. While nothing beats the taste of local and fresh from the oven, this focaccia was good. I actually used it as a base for pizza. When all TJs sold was their gluten free white sandwich bread, I didnt include it in this best-of gluten free bread list. All 3 of my children agreed that it just was not very good.

The loaves were so tiny that it was actually quite expensive in the end. But theyve since come out with a sliced gluten free Italian bread that is really good. So its included as a bonus entry.
