How To Store And Keep For Later Use
The banana bread stores well for a few days if refrigerated. I usually wrap leftover banana bread in aluminum foil tightly and refrigerate it. When needed, warm it up slightly in the microwave or for 5 to 10 minutes or more as needed in a 250-degree oven.
Serve it for breakfast or a snack in the evening. The best way is to serve it warm with some softened butter spread on top. While the bread is still warm, the butter lusciously melts into the bread, making it a heavenly bite!
Tender Banana Bread With Walnuts Or Chocolate Chips
If youre wondering why the world needs another banana bread recipe, you can bet that Im asking myself the same thing, too. But it feels right to put a banana bread recipe on this blog, since its something Ive been baking for my family for years and you all feel like part of my family. Plus, if ever there was a time for comfort baking, its now. Banana bread is the very epitome of comfort.
This tender banana bread is a hybrid of two different recipes Ive published in my cookbooks: One super healthy version, another more decadent. Ive combined what I love about both breads to land on a balanced loaf that my kids are crazy about. Ive worked whole grain flour into the mix, but not so much that it tastes like health food. Ive scaled back the sugar relative to typical recipes, but its still sweet enough. And the richness comes from heart-healthy extra-virgin olive oil rather than butter or vegetable oil.
Chocolate Chip Banana Walnut Muffins
I have a soft spot in my heart and in my belly for Ben & Jerrys chunky monkey ice cream. It has the perfect combination of chocolate, banana, and nuts. I wanted that perfect combination of flavors in my morning breakfast bread, so I made it with these Chunky Monkey Muffins.
Every time I buy bananas they go bad so fast. It has become a staple in our house to turn those too soft bananas into something delicious. My go-to for breakfast and using up those bananas that are on the brink of going bad is muffins. The kids always love them, they can be taken on the go and they store well for easy breakfasts often.
You are going to LOVE these Chunky Monkey Muffins not much beats the banana, chocolate chip and walnut combo!

How To Keep Chocolate Chips From Sinking In Banana Bread
I havent had a problem with the chocolate chips sinking in this thick batter however, there are a couple of good ways to avoid that issue. First, I recommend using miniature chocolate chips, which disperse evenly throughout the bread and arent as heavy . Next, if you are using the larger standard-size chocolate chips, you might want to lightly toss them with a small amount of flour before stirring them into the batter. This method helps the chocolate chips stay suspended in the bread.
Tips For The Best Banana Bread Recipe:
- Always make sure your bananas are ripe. The riper your bananas, the sweeter your loaf will be. If your bananas are not ripe, simply place them in the over at 350°F – 177 °C for about 20 minutes, or until they are dark brown.
- If you are not a fan of walnuts, you can replace them with a variety of options. Try the recipe with any kind of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, white chocolate chips, or caramel bites. Just alter those details according to your preferences.
- Follow the directions! I wouldn’t recommend skipping any step, or juggling the order mentioned. Stick to the recipe, especially when mixing the wet and dry ingredients. This order was created for a reason: to ensure the perfect results!

Culinary Tips For The Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
Measure the flour properly to prevent dense bread. Fluff, spoon, and level dont scoop and pack!
Whisking the dry ingredients together mimics sifting and evenly distributes the ingredients, so dont substitute another utensil.
Toast the walnuts before adding them to the flour mixture for better flavor.
Add the walnuts and chocolate chips after whisking the dry ingredients to ensure even distribution.
If your bananas arent quite ripe, roast them at 400ºF for 10 minutes with the peel on. Cool slightly, then mash.
Because this recipe has ripe bananas and chocolate chips , we reduced the brown sugar from our base recipe. When measuring brown sugar, pack it in the cup. If you are trying to reduce your sugar consumption or prefer less sweet bread, reduce the sugar to ¼ cup the recipe will still come out great!
Dont overmix the batter! Watch our muffin method culinary technique video to learn how to mix the batter just enough so that you end up with light and fluffy quick bread.
If your oven runs hot, check the bread for doneness after 45 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a toothpick into the middle of the loaf. If it comes out clean, its done! If its not done but the top of the loaf is getting too dark, loosely cover with a piece of foil and return to the oven.
The type of loaf pan will impact cook time. Dark metal pans will cook bread faster than ceramic pans.

This banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts makes a delicious homemade anytime treat or quick breakfast on the go. Double the batch and freeze one, or gift one to a friend. It’s absolutely irresistible so it will disappear quickly!
Why Is This The Best Banana Bread
Let me explain why this is the last banana bread recipe youll ever need. First off, its outrageously moist . This recipe has butter as well as sour cream, which not only make it unbelievably soft, they also give great flavor, as opposed to a lot of banana bread recipes that are made with oil. Of course I use walnuts in this recipe, that you can omit if you must, but I urge you not to, at least the first time you make this recipe.
BUT the real secret to this recipe on supreme moistness and banana flavor iswait for itSLICED BANANAS. You add some mashed and some thinly sliced. Is your mind blown yet?
Adding the sliced bananas into the bread leaves little pockets of banana that you wouldnt normally have when its mashed. Not enough that it is mushy, that wouldnt be good just the exact perfect thing your banana bread has been missing all along. Im telling you, this is legit.

Ingredient Notes And Substitutions
- Bananas: Overripe bananas are the best for banana bread! Youll need 3 bananas for this recipe.
- Flour: I like to use a combination of all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour. But you can use just one or the other if youd like. If using 100% whole wheat flour, your bread may be just a little less fluffy.
- Maple Syrup: Naturally sweetens this banana bread.
- Milk: I used soy milk but any non-dairy milk will work in this recipe.
- Oil: Use any neutral oil that you have on hand. We usually use canola oil, but olive oil, avocado oil, or melted coconut oil should work as well.
- Baking Powder/Baking Soda: The combination of these adds lightness and lift to this bread.
- Flax Egg: Ground flax and water make a great egg replacement for vegan recipes like this one. You can also use chia seeds instead of flax.
- Chocolate: I used mini vegan chocolate chips but you could use regular sized ones OR a chopped chocolate bar.
- Walnuts: I just love the combination of walnuts and chocolate. If you dont like walnuts, pecans would work well.
Chocolate Chip Banana Walnut Bread
August 26, 2014 by Chelsea
Is there anything more comforting than homemade banana bread? Not to me. Happiness is slicing into a warm loaf of banana bread, fresh out of the oven.
I have a plethora of bananas in my freezer at all times, probably because I like buying those big bundles of bananas at the grocery store and can never eat them fast enough. Im very picky when it comes to bananas they need to be perfectly ripe, otherwise I wont eat them. I like them when they just turn from green to yellow, when theyre still a little tangy. Once the skin starts to brown and they go softno thanks. I stick them in my freezer instead so Im always able to whip up some banana bread when Im craving it.
Which is often, especially at a time like this when the seasons start to change and the weather gets a little cooler. I like to have a loaf of banana bread on my counter at all times when one loaf gets eaten, I make another, then another, and so on. A slice of banana bread is the perfect on-the-go breakfast, and incredibly satisfying on those happy mornings when I wake up extra early to hit the gym before work.
I first started out with a classic recipe from the Joy of Cooking, but over the years Ive modified it to my own personal tastes. Ive tried additions of pecans, raisins, zucchini and even coconut, but this combination of walnuts and chocolate chips is my absolute favourite.

How To Serve Banana Bread
Banana bread makes a great on-the-go breakfast, healthier snack, or anytime treat to satisfy your sweet tooth. We love it with a generous smear of homemade butter or nut butter.
Nuts Or Chocolate Chips
My children cant stand nuts so we add in semi-sweet chocolate chips to our banana bread, but you can add in the following to make it your own!
Chopped pecansWhite chocolate chipsCaramel bits
You can also add a cinnamon sugar coating on top of your loaf and leave out the chocolate chips or nuts if you wish.
Once the cake batter is poured and spread into your loaf pan, sprinkle evenly with a cinnamon sugar mixture: 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. The result is a crunchy, flavourful top with a decadent bakery-style finish.

Chocolate Chip Walnut Banana Bread Ingredient Superstars
- Spelt Flour: good source of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals and often for some individuals can be easier to digest
- Ground Flax Seeds: acts as a perfect egg substitute and helps to bind the ingredients together, also provides omega 3s
- Peanut Butter: great source of healthy whole fats
- Walnuts: adds lovely texture to the bread while providing some additional omega 3s
You will notice as you mix this that you will get a much thicker batter than other banana bread recipes. This is totally fine as I find this thickness helps create a better shape to the bread and it has an easier time rising. Combine all these stellar ingredients in one bowl, pour into your baking pan and pop it in the oven. It will take about 50-55 minutes to fully bake, but the wait is so worth it. I did a bit of cleaning and reorganizing in that time frame, but do what feels right to you when waiting patiently. Maybe that time includes sneaking a few extra chocolate chips in. Im not here to judge.
You can serve this bread as is or spread with your favorite toppings. Ive been in love with an extra smear of peanut butter and jam on my slices. Be as creative as you choose to be with this chocolate chip walnut banana bread. Theres technically, no bad way of doing this.

How Do I Keep Chocolate Chips Or Nuts From Settling While Baking Banana Bread
To prevent any larger chunk ingredients that you want to add to your banana bread from settling, coat the desired ingredients in flour. In this case, I have used a small ziploc bag and a small portion of the flour called for in my chocolate chip banana nut bread recipe, and combined my mini chocolate chips and walnuts with the flour.
A light coating of the flour will prevent my chocolate chips and nuts from sinking to the bottom of my baked banana bread loaf.

White Chocolate Chips And Walnuts Banana Bread
16 May 2019
On its own, this banana bread with white chocolate chips and walnuts is a total winner. This time, Im sharing its recipe but Ive raised the bet. Thanks to the chocolate and the nuts, youll get a sweet, spongy and filling banana bread that goes a long way. Besides, there is no comparison to the one you could get at Starbucks.
Unlike many of my recipes, I adopted this one just some years ago. Growing up in Argentina, I had never tried this delight. We had the pleasure to meet on my first trip to the United States when I was around 16 years old. Needless to say, we never broke apart from that day. Now, I have to make up for lost time, so its one of my go-to recipes for any weekend or to share at the office. My colleagues are a bit euphoric about it. If you want to make a good impression, I recommend this 100%.
The base recipe is inspired by Laura Vitales, just like my Blueberry Muffins. However, Ive modified it with the passing of time and tried combining different ingredients. Until I opted for this one, the QUEEN of them all, the one youll love and never let go.
The white chocolate-walnuts combo was pure accident. Or was it fate? Firstly, I had some bananas that were too ripe to eat. And secondly, when I open my pantry, on my seeds and nuts shelf, I noticed a quarter of a jar of walnuts and half a package of white chocolate chips. So, it didnt take me long to figure this exquisite triple-bomb combination.
