Where To Go In La Brea Los Angeles

Woman fatally stabbed inside Hancock Park furniture store, LAPD says | ABC7

The L.A. neighborhood has more than a dozen trendy new restaurants and boutiques selling home goods and fashions from up-and-coming designers.

The two-block-long District La Brea in midcity Los Angeles was long known for its contemporary furniture stores and eclectic art galleries. When the economy headed south in 2008 many of these spots closed, and the neighborhood became something of a dead zone. The area began to perk up in 2012, driven in part by Madison Marquette, a Washington, D.C. real estate company that invested in 11 mostly vacant industrial buildings and, in a bid to lure retailers, built individual storefronts in different styles. Today, the area has more than a dozen trendy new restaurants and boutiques selling home goods and fashions from up-and-coming designers. Its one of the hippest drags in town.

Set in a sprawling 3,500-square-foot space, this restaurant, which opened in January, is a grilled food powerhouse. The semi-open kitchen design gives diners a glimpse into the live-fire cooking, which includes dishes such as oak-grilled branzino with cherry tomatoes, spring onions, asparagus and fried pea tendrils, and grilled Snake River wagyu tri-tip with charred broccolini. Some cuts of meat are meant to be shared.

Average meal is $50 a person. 127 South La Brea Avenue, 323-939-1033

Hancock Park is a La Brea quarry, a museum of discoveries. Under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum and the Los Angeles Museum of Art colleges and sculpture gardens, the modern medieval 1952 view deck, a large ice shelf depot, was reopened in mid-1990s, starting in mid-1990s. This is part of a new excursion tour. Have more than a dozen new stores made La Brea Avenue a shopping magnet once again?

For more than two decades, a roughly 1.5-mile stretch of La Brea between Melrose Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard arguably has been the citys most diverse and densely packed district for Old World antiques, vintage furniture, contemporary décor and urban fashion. Other destinations have challenged it, but La Brea keeps bouncing back.

Although much of the change this time centers on the burgeoning District La Brea development between 1st and 2nd Streets, stores have been opening, almost monthly, along the blocks to the north.

Enterprises here bring not only a renewed vitality to the street but also a fresh aesthetic: loft-inspired architecture, industrial and earth-friendly furniture, and artisanal goods.

New galleries focus on graffiti and street art and contemporary L.A. painters . The year-old Kerson Gallery add to the streets formidable Midcentury Modern roster, as does Adesso Eclectic Imports , which moved from Pasadena into the space formerly occupied by Barclay Butera.

Year-old WhyrHymer features the furniture and lighting designs of woodworker Brandon Morrison, and a 3-month-old outpost of the Venice store A+R has the clean look of a museum gift shop and the latest imports from design capitals in Europe.

The wealth of options also includes Mortise & Tenon , Landon Cole , Plantation , 22 Bond St. , Craig Olsen and Vioski .
