It doesnt just contain whole wheat, it also contains a mix of flaxseed, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, barley, oats, rye and more. As mentioned earlier, the more variety of plant foods, the better for your gut health, so this is absolutely a great pick.

Micronutrients In High Fiber Bread
When foods are made from whole grains, they contain all parts of the grain seed. This means that they offer the benefits of micronutrients like B vitamins, iron, magnesium, and selenium.
Breads made with sprouted grains are especially rich in vitamin E, vitamin C, and beta-carotene. Below are some of the benefits of micronutrients found in bread:
- B vitamins: needed to convert food into energy
- Iron: helps the body transport oxygen

You may remember me announcing on that Silver Hills Bakery was going to be coming out with a couple of Gluten-Free Breads.
So, of course, I was happy to see it pop up in my local grocery stores freezer.
They also had the Chia variety, but I decided to try The Macks Flax Gluten Free first. Heres how I ate it, toast with my eggs
Earth Balance on one piece, peanut butter and a touch of honey on the other.
Howd it Taste?
I really liked it!! It actually doesnt taste as grainy as it looks. It just tasted like a hearty piece of bread. Its not like sprouted bread with all the nuts and seeds, its actually a bit more dense. I do find it takes a lot longer to toast it than my other favorite gluten free bread for example. But no worries, I dont mind waiting!
What I Like
It has 6 grams of fiber per slice!!! Thats a lot more than any gluten-free bread Ive seen.
It works slightly better for sandwiches. Yes, the slices are still smaller than traditional bread, but they are a bit bigger than the Udis Bread, which is quite small and not ideal for sandwich-making.

Recipe Notes Tips And Faqs
- Is there protein in bread? In traditional wheat bread , there is around 3.5 g protein per medium slice and 4 g for a wholemeal slice. In comparison, this high protein bread contains 10-12 grams of protein per slice. The exact amount will vary based on how thickly you slice the bread.
- Is lentil bread very dense? While its denser than traditional wheat bread, this healthy gluten-free bread is not overly dense.
- Can I leave the lentils to ferment? I havent tried, so I cant guarantee results. However, if you do, let me know the results, as Ive heard it can increase the rise in the bread.
- What does it taste like? This lentil bread tastes slightly savory and earthy without tasting overwhelmingly healthy. I urge you to try it and find out for yourself!

Another issue you face is that grain flour bread contains a protein that some individuals simply cannot digest, therefore causing a multitude of issues within the body: Gluten.
To make bread nutritious, you merely have to use a flour that is not comprised of enriched wheat flourif you dont suffer from celiac disease, you could use a whole grain flour and you are a-ok, otherwise here are some gluten free carb sources that make great flours for your bread!
In this recipe you can swap out the carb source with any of the 3 above in the same exact proportion and youll be more than happy with the bread result I guarantee it!

How Important Is Fibre
We know that fibre helps to keep us regular, but it can also protect against bowel cancer and heart disease, lower blood cholesterol and improve blood glucose control. Processed gluten-free products, though, can lack fibre.
Fibre is especially important for healthy bowel function. Soluble fibre acts like a sponge by absorbing liquid and easing bowel movements. This can slow the digestion of food, help to manage diarrhoea and promote good gut health. Insoluble fibre acts as a bulking agent and, combined with soluble fibre, also helps to reduce constipation.

Trying To Maintain A Gluten
- Going Gluten Free: Cutting out gluten, a protein found in grains like wheat, rye or barley, is truly beneficial only to some. If you are healthy, it may even carry risks.
- Gluten-Free Bread: Are gluten-free loaves more nutritious than their wheat-based counterparts? It depends on your individual circumstances.
A third, much less common wheat-related condition is a wheat allergy, which can cause allergic reactions like diarrhea, vomiting, facial swelling or difficulty breathing within minutes to hours after eating wheat.
If you have celiac disease, wheat sensitivity or a wheat allergy, going with a gluten-free bread is clearly the better choice. But in a 2017 survey of 1,000 people in the United States and Canada who purchased gluten-free groceries conducted by the food and beverage ingredient supplier Ingredion 46 percent said they bought those products for reasons other than a medical condition. Among their top motivations: wanting to reduce inflammation or consume fewer artificial ingredients, believing that gluten-free products were healthier or more natural, and thinking that such products would help with weight loss.
However, none of these beliefs are true, said Anne R. Lee, a registered dietitian and an assistant professor of nutritional medicine at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center. Typically, the gluten-free products are higher in fat, higher in sugar, higher in salt and lower in fiber and your B vitamins and iron, she said.
Asda Free From 50/50 Loaf
Buying gluten-free bread can be expensive. With many brands charging a premium, it’s nice to see that Asda have kept their sliced gluten-free loaf on the budget-friendly side. While this didn’t blow our minds in terms of flavour, it does have a classic sliced loaf texture which many people enjoy. When toasted, it has a light, fluffy texture inside that we found to be very pleasant for breakfast. Plus, it’s free from eggs and dairy, too, so it’s perfect for vegans.
The size and texture of this loaf make it just right for kids’ sandwiches or quick breakfasts.
