This product is clearly labeled gluten free, but also includes this warning, Good manufacturing practices are used to segregate ingredients and products in a facility that also processes wheat, soy and tree nuts.
A reader asked me to test Food For Life Gluten-Free English Muffins for hidden gluten with my Nima Sensor, a portable gluten-detecting device. She suspected they contained gluten after she felt sick eating them. Since then, she invested in a Nima Sensor of her own and her Nima Sensor found gluten. My Nima Sensor found gluten too.
But before you write off these products as unsafe, things are about to get really interesting.
I sent an email to Food For Life to share my test results and to see if they had any comment on why my Nima Sensor may have found gluten.
Within 24 hours of sending my inquiry, I received a phone call from Adolfo Suarez, a quality control supervisor at Food For Life. He looked up the specific lot number of the English muffins I tested, and told me that his testing didnt find any gluten.
Why, then, did my Nima Sensor, and the Nima Sensor of one of my readers, find gluten? Could these be false positives? Does Nima struggle to accurately test sprouted ingredients? Or did these English muffins contain gluten after all?
Is Life Cinnamon Gluten
No, life cereal is not gluten-free. Life cereal is made with whole grain wheat and whole grain oats, both of which contain gluten. The Cinnamon Crunch and Multi Grain versions of Life cereal contain wheat, barley, and rye and should be avoided by those who are gluten intolerant.
For those looking for a gluten-free cereal, there are many other options available. General Mills offers gluten-free versions of their cereals like Cheerios, Kix, and Lucky Charms. There are also numerous gluten-free cereals available from other brands.

Potential Risks Of Ezekiel Bread
If you are going to eat bread, you will be hard-pressed to find a healthier choice than Ezekiel bread, although it may be only slightly better than others. Gluten cannot be fully absorbed by humans. Can a person be gluten sensitive and still be a gluten free person? The study, which was published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2011, was carried out by the University of Delaware. Group 1 was fed regular bread containing more than 80,000 ppm of gluten, while Group 2 was fed gluten-free bread with two participants. In Group 3, five people had access to hydrolyzed bread, which contained only 8 ppm of gluten.

How Can We Simplify Confusion Over These Gluten Free Oats
In this instance I think that America and Australia have a simpler food allergen list, with gluten free under separate gluten free labelling regulations. Both things need to be labelled but they are quite different and the regulations are protecting different communities. Those with allergies and those with coeliac disease. The two groups have a lot in common but listing the Top 14, being the top most allergenic, makes sense to me that its wheat as that is a far more common allergen than rye, barley and oats.
Whether that solves the oat issue Im not sure. Oats are oats and gluten free oats are still oats gluten containing grains. Does this all make sense now?

In America their list of allergens is smaller but simpler. They list Wheat as one of their top 9 allergens but not all the other cereals containing gluten. Interestingly and helpfully sesame has just been added to this list, bringing the list up from eight allergens to nine.

How Much Gluten Is In Ezekiel Sprouted Bread
Ezekiel sprouted bread is very low in gluten, as it is made with sprouted grains that have not been processed or bleached. The science or health writer doesnt fully comprehend the science and takes what they do understand and runs with it. Compound the lack of full understanding with the desire to entice readers, and you have untruths spreading like wildfire.
Take the 2011 research published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The authors were simply trying to create a bread that wouldnt bother those suffering from celiac disease, despite it containing wheat flour certainly a goal-worthy endeavor.

Group 1 was fed regular bread with over 80,000 ppm of gluten Now you see what kind of hit you get from gluten. Not surprisingly, 2 out of 6 celiacs in this group were forced to drop out because they became so ill. And everyone in this group was discovered to suffer adverse effects based on follow-up blood and biopsy results. Again, no surprise, they were eating bread.

Are there just 14 top allergens in the UK? Or are there actually 19? For people with allergies, there are six separate cereal containing grains that they could be allergic to.
In America they are now 9 allergens that must be labelled, a move that updated the list to add sesame in January 2023.
For coeliacs they will react to all of the gluten containing grains, whilst some coeliacs are able to tolerate gluten free oats. Oats contain avenin which is a similar protein to gluten coeliacs can also react to gluten free oats.
Should gluten free oats be included as an allergen in the Top 14 allergens?
