Do they have wifi here?
Not sure if they do or not. However, you will not be welcome to sit there and relax like u would at a Starbucks. They “encourage” u to order, eat and make room for the next patron.

Modern Bread And Bagel New York City
We came here on a recent trip to New York. I was soo excited to try the bagels after reading all the amazing reviews and they did not disappoint. My husband and I each got a bagel and a cupcake to take to Central Park…for a picnic. I had an everything bagel with chive cream cheese, salmon and tomato and it was soo good. The best GF bagel I have ever tasted!! Yes, they are a little pricey but they are 100% worth the money. My husband who is not Coeliac loved it too, he said he couldn’t taste the difference. If you are in New York you have to try this place. The selection of bagels and cakes is the best I have seen and everything is gluten free.More
My spouse ordered us two bagel sandwiches and two cupcakes for our lunch. Even though I rationally knew this was a gluten free establishment, upon my first bite I felt compelled to go online to double check – the bagel was that good! Good crisp…exterior and the soft chew inside. The cupcakes are moist and hold together nicely with a well balanced frosting. I pre ordered a pick up on our way to the train to head to the airport so we had lunch enroute and bagels to take home. The doughnuts are soft and pillowy but not greasy like fried gluten free doughnuts can sometimes be. Highly recommend!More

Modern Bread & Bagel Review
I originally zeroed in on their signage cinnamon babka french toast, but they had run out for the day, so I settled for the close second: teff pancakes, which also happen to be vegan. Once they arrived at my table, any disappointment with my second choice quickly evaporated because they looked downright delicious! The pancakes have a hearty, whole grain flavor. Added sweetness from powder sugar atop the trio coupled with bananas and the chili and date syrup completed the symphony of flavors that made each forkful a delicious mix of sweet and spicy. Theyre quite filling, so I couldnt eat another bite after polishing them off, I sadly had to forgo ordering additional items off the menu.
Since I couldnt bear to eat another bite, I made sure to stock up on plenty of baked goods to go for later enjoyment. As such, I purchased two challah rolls to go and a half-dozen bagels. I froze them the day after purchased, and they thawed out beautifully, with seemingly no detriment to taste or texture. The challah rolls are absolutely lovely to look at with their tantalizing golden color and glistening shine. They taste every bit as good as they look, and have a lovely warm honey-infused flavor and bready texture. Theres nothing better than well-baked bread, and I savored every bite of each roll I purchased.
This challah roll was definitely ready for its close-up! |

I have a thing about proclaiming something the best which goes even further when such leans toward coffee, bagels, croissants, muffins and so forth.
Different, yes, but I ask, how great can they be?
About croissants, I have written that those at Epice are mighty fine, the closest to a Parisian croissant I have discovered locally but in Paris itself, there is no such thing as a best croissant.
Onto bagels, where New York is considered the Paris of this gnosh, it is not so easy to find a really good bagel anymore. Not without guidance.
Modern Bread and Bagel has surfaced as exemplary, using criteria such as size and texture, seed and salt density, spread texture and store style.
Mike Varley included it in a list of fifty bagel joints by walking the equivalent of 3500 miles throughout the 5 boroughs in 13 months, and compiled a listsubject to changethat pretty much trumps anything anybody else has done to date.

She returned to Australia in 2015 and worked in a commercial bakery, wholesaling a variety of gluten-free items for local bakeries and cafes. At the same time, she developed a line of gluten-free flours, Blends by Orly, designed to be used for a variety of different baking applications. She introduced her line of specialized flours to the market by traveling to the United States regularly to participate in trade shows and cooking demonstrations.
Before opening Modern Bread & Bagel, Orly Gottesman developed a line of gluten-free flours, Blends by Orly, designed to be used for a variety of different baking applications.
But when the couple stumbled across that for-rent sign in Manhattan, they decided it was time to open their own shop. They both felt that the Upper West Side was the right place to start. It has a big Jewish customer base and we are dealing with bagels and Jewish food, Gottesman said. They decided to make Modern Bread & Bagel kosher to further reflect our values, she said.
Gottesmans bagels are made from her Manhattan Blend, which contains the ancient grains millet and sorghum. This particular gluten-free flour variety includes high-protein, gluten-mimicking ingredients, and she adds xanthan gum to the mix to give stretch to the dough.
God, Gottesman added, has a plan.
