To start, youll need 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil. The first seasoning well use will be 4 cloves of minced garlic. From there, use 1 teaspoon each of lemon juice and dried basil, ½ teaspoon each of dried thyme, oregano, rosemary, and parsley, and ¼ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes. Finish it off with a pinch of salt and pepper, added to taste!

If you dont have fresh garlic cloves, you can substitute each clove with ¼ teaspoon. That will put you at 1 whole teaspoon for this dip!

While I used Pompeian Olive oil for this recipe, you can use what you already have on hand, just be sure it is extra virgin olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil has a deeper flavor that is more robust and can handle the seasoning and the garlic. Light olive oil will be way overpowered by the seasoning blend whereas extra virgin olive adds not only holds the seasoning blend but adds in flavor as well.

STEP 1: First, mix the herbs, salt, pepper, red pepper, and garlic together on an appetizer plate or in a small bowl.

It can be many things, but in this case it is just a basic blend of dried herbs with a quality olive oil and a crusty bread for dipping. It is honestly one of the easiest and also most popular recipes I make. It is a wildly easy recipe and perfect for quick appetizer.

When entertaining, I like to serve my olive oil dip with a variety of breads and crackers on an Ultimate Cheese Board, however I personally prefer either Italian or rosemary focaccia.

Im not going to pretend that for many meals, I wouldnt be content to simply sit with some warm and crusty bread, this Italian butter dip, some charcuterie meats and cheeses, and a glass of wine. Who needs an actual meal?

Some of my favorite breads to dip, aside from a good crusty French or Italian bread, are garlic parmesan pull-apart bread and brown and serve rolls.

But if you did want to serve this infused olive oil as a starter or side with some bread for a restaurant meal at home, I would fully endorse it.

Any kind of pasta meal would benefit from a side of this, especially this creamy pesto pasta with shrimp.

  • Fresh is best. While you can keep this dip in the fridge for up to 3 days before the fresh garlic and rosemary start to lose some of their punchy flavors, its really much better to eat right away when the flavors will be at their brightest.

    Making the herb blend is super easy! But it does require just a little of elbow grease. To mix all of the flavors together, you must use a mortar and pestle to grind the ingredients.

    Grind the ingredients in two separate batches: Add half of the ingredients and push down with the pestle until you reach a coarse texture. Transfer half of the mixture into a small bowl and repeat this process with the remaining of the ingredients.

    I do not recommend blending the herbs in a food processor since the beauty of using a mortar & pestle, is that it releases all of herb oils to create a delicious & aromatic blend. For these types of recipes, there is nothing better than doing it like the good ol days
