Only two ingredients are used: provolone and barbecue sauce. There is also a spice mixture: pepper, paprika, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. The seasoning gives the chicken a slightly smoky flavor, and it goes great with almost any type of bread you decide to use.

Ingredients To Make This Healthy Chicken Flatbread Recipe

To make this delicious meal you will need the following ingredients.

  • whole wheat wraps – but you may try other flavored wraps if you desire or you can try corn tortilla wraps
  • BBQ sauce – the most delicious organic BBQ sauce that I’ve used is Annie’s Organic BBQ sauce. All of Annie’s products are organic, which I find to be a positive. I’ve linked the barbecue sauce below or use your favorite bbq sauce and let me know what it is in the comments below
  • mozzarella cheese. Panera Bread also adds gouda cheese into their flatbread so you can do that, as well, but my children just happen to not like gouda so I left it out. If adding gouda then also shred it. You can buy shredded cheese already shredded, but I like to shred it myself. A great way to do that is to use a grater.

P.S. I’ve omitted the frizzled onion straws to keep it healthier, but if those are your favorite part of the flatbread the please add them in.

The new Panera Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Sandwich and BBQ Chicken Salad are the next new Panera offerings we tried out recently.

Similar to the Panera Chipotle Bacon Meltreviewed earlier, the Panera Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Sandwich bread reminds me of Texas toast. Described as smoked, pulled chicken raised without antibiotics, BBQ sauce, red onions, Vermont white cheddar, and frizzled onions on Classic White Bread on Paneras site.

Toasted Classic White Bread, we meet again

Theres lots of pulled chicken and BBQ sauce on the inside. Along with the frizzled onions, it reminds me of a healthier BK rodeo burger. But with chicken instead and 380 calories for a half sandwich. Particularly enjoyed the extra interest the red onions added, and Im typically not a big raw red onion fan. Overall, a very tasty option.

Next, we have the Panera BBQ Chicken Salad. Surprisingly, the salad dressing didnt look like the dark dressing shown in the Panera photo when I ordered. Paneras description is chicken raised without antibiotics, romaine, black bean and corn salsa, tossed in BBQ ranch dressing, topped with frizzled onions, and drizzled with apple cider vinegar BBQ sauce. Seems like they just showed the apple cider vinegar BBQ sauce in a side cup and not the actual dressing.

How To Make Panera Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt

To prepare the creamy chipotle sauce:

  • Mix the mayonnaise and Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce in a small bowl.
  • Cover and keep in the fridge until you need it.
  • To assemble the copycat Panera Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt:

  • Move the rack in your oven to the highest position and turn on the broiler.
  • Rinse and dry the sprig of cilantro. Pick off the leaves, and give them a rough chop.
  • Drain the Peppadew Peppers and cut them in half.
  • Rinse the outer skin of the avocado and dry. Cut in half lengthwise and remove the seed. Use a spoon to scrape the avocado flesh from one of the halves. Thinly slice one half. Wrap the other half in plastic and put it in the fridge.
  • Use a bread knife to cut the focaccia bread into your preferred sandwich size. Slice the sandwich bread horizontally in half.
  • Use a knife to spread a layer of creamy chipotle mayo sauce on the bottom slice.
  • Sprinkle the chopped cilantro on top of the sauce.
  • Layer the smoked chicken, peppers, Peppadew Peppers, sliced avocado, and gouda.
  • Put the open-face sandwich on a baking tray and broil until the cheese melts.

    • Although I dont remember what the Panera salad dressing was for this salad, we love to make our own BBQ Ranch dressing with equal parts of our favorite BBQ sauce and Ranch dressing.
    • Be sure to add the dressing and then the french fried onions at the last minute so you dont end up with a soggy dressing.

    This is definitely my favorite dinner salad recipe and it goes with so many sides! You can grab some tortilla chips if youre in a hurry but here are my favorite dishes to pair with this salad:

    • Top each bowl with with salsa, pickled onions, crispy onions and dressings 1/4 cup black bean & corn salsa, 1/4 cup pickled red onion, 1/4 cup fried onions
    • Slice chicken breast and split between two bowls
    • Squeeze 1/2 lime over each salad and serve1 lime

    Ingredients For Making Bbq Jackfruit Sandwiches:

    Jackfruit: Look for Young or Green Jackfruit canned in water, not brine. Rinse it well in the colander and drain well too

    BBQ Sauce: Any BBQ sauce you like will work for this. I used Primal Kitchens Mango Jalapeño BBQ Sauceand highly recommend it! Its naturally sweetened, not too fruity despite the name, and it has more of a peppery kick than a super hot spice, if you know what I mean.

    Smoked Paprika: This is one of my favorite spices! I use it all the time and since its a bit more flavorful than sweet paprika, a little goes a long way. This is the ingredient that creates that smokey BBQ flavor in this recipe!

    This dish as most of the salads at Panera has a bunch of little components. So here are the ingredients and the short cuts I take to make this dish in a total time of 10 minutes!

    • Romaine Lettuce I buy the packages with 3 heads and just pull one out and rough chop it. It stays fresher longer than the pre-bagged lettuce.
    • Chicken I always use the Mojo Criollo marinade because their chicken is in a citrus marinade its cheap and readily available and theres no need for extra spices like pepper or garlic powder the marinade has everything in it!
    • If youre looking for a short cut rotisserie chicken will work
  • Black Bean and Corn Salsa to save time, I use a store bought version.
  • If you dont feel like buying one you can just add some canned corn kernels and canned black beans
  • BBQ Ranch Dressing this is easy take your bottle of ranch and add in some bbq sauce! I went with a thick Kansas City BBQ Sauce from Kroger.
  • Pickled Red Onions the same recipe I have for no-cook fridge pickles do just a jar of red onions only! You will use them ALL THE TIME!
  • Frizzled Onions who has time to frizzle an onion whatever that is?! I bought the french fried onions in the salad fixins area I love the crispy salt and onion flavor!
  • Apple cider vinegar BBQ sauce guess what? I have 6 bottles of BBQ sauce in my pantry none were apple cider vinegar-ish. So I took that Kansas City BBQ and added some apple cider vinegar it was identical!!!

    I used to love going to Panera Bread for their delicious sandwiches and bread bowls, and while they now have a few vegan options on the menu, this BBQ Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich is not one of them.

    Whomp whomp.

    So I decided to veganize it by creating a homemade version and its since become one of my all time favorite sandwiches!

    Panera Chefs Chicken Sandwich Signature Take Review:

    I could immediately smell the blend of spices and seasonings, but I also got a whiff of that sweet bakery smell from the brioche bun. The biggest takeaway on my first bite was howthe sear and sous-vide method makes the chicken taste light and tender, and the lettuce adds a refreshing touch.

    As crunchy and flavorful as the parmesan crisps are on their own, they get lost in the mix of the sandwich. My favorite part of the Signature Take is the garlic aioli. Even though it has a subtle flavor, it adds a little something.

    My family and I are unapologetic frequent fliers at Panera Bread. I am not the least bit sorry about it- I love Panera Salads! But my one complaint is that they change up their menu pretty frequently and always seem to get rid of my favorite items! Their BBQ Chicken Salad always seems to come and go- and hat’s my husband’s favorite.

    So I recreated it and that was definitely a good decision- it’s now mainstay in our rotation. And whats not to like? Crisp green lettuce and grilled BBQ chicken anchor this salad. My Roasted Corn Salsa adds some additional veggie goodness, tomatoes bring the sweet and tasty acidity that only a tomato can. Top it off with some french fried onions for crunch and a drizzle of our favorite BBQ sauce and of course some BBQ Ranch dressing.

    This salad is a refreshing bowl of happiness. But it’s also hearty enough to be a satisfying meal. Even better, you can prep everything ahead and throw it together at the last minute. So it pretty much has weeknight dinner written all over it!

    Paneras BBQ Chicken Salad starts with romaine lettuce, and its topped with citrus-marinated chicken, black bean & corn salsa, pickled red onions and fried onions. Then, its topped with a BBQ Ranch dressing and a sweet barbecue-style cider vinegar dressing.

    How To Make Panera Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melts Ahead Of Time

    Melts are always served hot, but this sandwich is almost as good when its cold. That means it is ideal if you are brown bagging it.

    To prepare a copycat Panera Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt to go, use the same method above, but dont bother sticking it under the broiler.

    To stop the sliced avocados from turning brown, you can try brushing them with either lemon or pineapple juice. And if they get a bit darker by lunchtime, dont worry. They are still perfectly edible.

    How To Make This Bbq Chicken Flatbread

    If you need a quick way to cook your chicken, slice it up into strips and season it with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Preheat oven to 375 degrees farenheit and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for an easy clean up.

    Cut your strips into 1 inch horizontal and about 3 inch vertical in length. Place strips in a medium sized mixing bowl and top with bbq sauce.

    Using a rubber spatula mix chicken around to be sure each piece is coated. Place chicken strips on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer and bake your strips for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.

    Then, place wraps on a small nonstick baking sheet. Bake 4 to 5 minutes per side or until crispy. If air bubbles form, poke them with a fork, then press out the air with a spatula or oven mitt. Remove the sheet from the oven. Top wraps evenly in layers with more bbq sauce, cheese, cooked chicken, red onion, and cilantro. Drizzle more bbq on top for a wow factor

    Last, bake 2 to 4 minutes or until cheese is completely melted. Slice into quarters or fold wrap over to form a sandwich and serve immediately! Also, if you wanted to change it up a bit and have more calories you could make a BBQ chicken sandwich and put the ingredients on a whole wheat roll instead!

    Review Of Panera Bread

    We only eat at Panera Bread occasionally, but we have never been disappointed at this location. I tried the BBQ Chicken Flatbread tonight and it was delicious. The flatbread was nicely toasted and warm. The spinach and cilantro were very fresh – not wilted and no sign of browning. The mozzarella and smoked Gouda were well balanced and flavorful. The frizzled onions blended nicely with the other flavors without being overpowering. The chicken was also quite good and would have been superb alone. In fact, all of the ingredients were as advertised – fresh and delicious. However, everything was completely overpowered by the very rich, sweet BBQ sauce. That’s merely an observation and not a complaint. I enjoyed the sandwich and the fresh baguette that came with it. Overall, it offered big flavors, but in a relatively modest portion.
