How To Make Our Air Fryer Indian Fry Bread Recipe:

Navajo Fry Bread ( Navajo Taco & Dessert)

To begin, grab a medium mixing bowl and add in the all purpose flour, salt, baking powder, milk, and mix it together witha fork until it is all the way combined.

Once the dough is formed, cut it into 6 equal pieces and then roll them into a smooth ball and cover them with a towel and set them aside.

Grab one ball at a time and press the ball into a flat disc that is about 5 inches in diameter and try to to keep the edges a little thicker than then center until all the balls have been formed.

In a shallow bowl or plate, pour the vegetable oil and then place the discs in the vegetable oil filling it to cover each side.

Once the discs have been prepared, place them in the basket of the air fryer and set the temperature to 375 and fry the dough for 10 minutes.

While the bread is frying, prepare your taco ingredients!

In a large skillet brown the ground beef and onion until the meat is no longer pink.

Then drain the meat of all the grease and then add in the beans, taco seasoning, and salsa, cooking it all together for about 5 minutes to let the flavors blend together.

As the fry bread is getting done, remove it from the air fryer, placing it on a plate and cover it wiht a towel. If you have more dough to cook, add it to the fryer and bake it for 10 minutes at 375.

When everything is ready, place the fry bread on the plate and then top it with the meat mixture and all of your favorite taco toppings.

Fry Bread is a beloved tradition in the Western United States. Serve it up savory as Navajo Tacos or go the sweet side and serve it up with a little honey butter and powdered sugar.

Fry Bread is a beloved tradition in the United States. Serve it up savory as Navajo Tacos or go the sweet side and serve it up with a little honey butter and powdered sugar.

This recipe comes from an Aunt who lived among a local Native American tribe for many, many years. There are so many fond memories of visiting as a child and enjoying the culture. She learned to make Fry Bread from friends in the tribe and passed the recipe down several years ago. Fry bread goes by many names around these parts, including Indian Fry Bread, Navajo Fry Bread, Navajo Tacos, and Scones. Yes, we realize that the word scone means something completely different everywhere else in the world, but around here, scones are fry bread. Theres even a whole chain restaurant devoted to it called Sconecutter.

The dough for this is quite simple, requiring very few ingredients. Dont underestimate how delicious it is based on the simplicity. This fry bread is so delicious! It is most frequently served as either Navajo Tacos, with all your favorite taco ingredients, or as a dessert. Our favorite way to enjoy it as a dessert is to lather on some honey butter and dust it with powdered sugar. Yum! Its crunch on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside.

Indian Tacos Are A Delicious Treat We Have Always Enjoyed At The Oklahoma State Fair

Make these delectable Indian Tacos at home with just a few simple ingredients and enjoy them anytime! What sets these apart is the amazing Indian Fry Bread which makes the base for these tacos.

Indian Tacos and I go way back. I probably first tried one as soon as my mom was able to feed it to me. The only drawback was that I never had it more than once a year at the State Fair! Probably one of the bigger draws of going to the Fair is enjoying all the once a year foods they have. Corn Dogs, Candy Apples and Indian Tacos were always among my favorites.

I realize that many State Fairs dont have the Indian Tacos. If you have never tried one then I would compare it to the best Taco Salad in a shell you have ever tried, but a lot more bread to it!

The Fry Bread is what really sets this hearty meal apart. Indian Fry bread is just a simple bread mixture with leavening and milk that is flattened out and fried. It puffs up and makes a delicious bed for all the yummy toppings.

This recipe makes around 4-5 fry breads depending on the size of the Indian Taco you are making. State fair sized Indian Tacos would be more like 1-2 of these, but I am assuming you want a smaller sized portion. When we have one at the State Fair we often split it between 4-5 people because it is so HUGE!

Mmm. Just looking at an Indian Taco makes my stomach growl. They are SOOO good and Im glad I get to make them at home now!

Can You Make Indian Fry Bread Ahead Of Time

Indian Fry Bread Tacos are one of those simple food that are best enjoyed when fresh off the pan. So I highly discouraged you from making it ahead of time, however, you can mix up the dough in advance and store in the fridge or freezer until ready to use.

To store in the fridge. Cover the dough ball in a plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for 1-2 days.

To freeze the dough. This dough freezes well, too. In step #6, after tearing about 2-inch sized of dough balls, flash freeze the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the balls 1/2 inch apart and freeze for 3-5 hours or until hard enough to touch. Then once frozen, transfer them into an airtight container, label, and freeze for up to 1 month. When ready to use, thaw the dough balls overnight in the fridge. Let it come to room temperature before rolling them out. Fry according to the directions in the recipe box below.

How Do You Make Fry Bread

This Indian fry bread is deep fried until golden brown and then served ...

In medium bowl whisk flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly stir in warm water with a fork and mix until dough comes together. Cover with wrap and let rest at least 1 2 hours. This is a sticky dough so you will need to flour your hands and the working surface. Pull off a piece a little smaller than a golf ball. Roll into a ball as best you can, then pat it out like a mini pizza. You can also roll them out. They should be a little more than 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Dont worry if they are not all round or the exact same size.

In a heavy pan heat 1-2 inches of oil to 375 degrees. Fry until the bread is golden brown and puffs up. Then turn and fry the other side until golden brown. Roll and fry as you go that way if you want them thinner or thicker you can adjust accordingly. Remove to paper towels to drain and cool enough to handle.

Can Fry Bread Be Frozen

Fry bread can be frozen for up to three months. Wipe the oil off with a paper towel once the bread cools and wrap it tightly in plastic, then place it in a freezer bag. For better results, freeze the uncooked dough when it’s still in the ball shape using the same type of packaging. Thaw the dough overnight in the refrigerator, unwrap it and let it reach room temperature before shaping and frying as normal.

Can I Freeze This Recipe

Authentic Indian Fry Bread

You can freeze the dough for this recipe, but it takes a little extra work to do so. Lay the separated dough balls on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or wax paper, about 2 inches apart. Place the sheet pan in the freezer for as long as it takes for the exterior of the dough to freeze solid. Then take them out and wrap them separately with plastic wrap and store them in a heavy-duty freezer bag.

When you are ready to use the dough, switch the dough balls to the fridge the night before and unwrap them while they are still cold. Before frying, allow them to become room temperature then roll them out or pull them into the disk shape. Then continue with the recipe as written.
