Is sourdough bread considered a low carb food? Sourdough bread contains less calories and carbohydrates than other breads like for like, because some of the starches and sugars are consumed during the fermentation period. However, for anyone trying to restrict their carbohydrate intake, it is still high in carbohydrates when compared to other foods such as vegetables.
It really depends on which type of sourdough bread is consumed, some small slices contain as little as 10g of carbohydrates per slice, which is about the same amount as low carb breads on the market.

What Are The Breads With The Lowest Carb Counts
If youre on a low-carb diet, bread is typically one of the first things youll have to remove from your diet — having a sandwich with a couple of slices of white or wheat bread has close to 30 grams of carbs just from the bread alone, for example. This low carb bread recipe with almond flour came about somewhat by accident during my Sunday keto meal planning. Lately Ive been making the flattened version of my 4-ingredient almond flour biscuits to use for sandwiches each week, but since Ive been wanting to create a keto almond flour bread recipe, last weekend I decided to attempt that instead.
This is one of the closest ways Ive come to a carb-free bread or carbless bread. Technically, cloud bread is lower in carbs, but the texture is much further from real bread. My white keto bread recipe is also lower in carbs , but that one is more like a fluffy white instead of a classic wheat. That one is more light, while this low carb gluten-free bread is chewy and similar to wheat bread. You can also make coconut flour bread without any almond flour at all or for a sweeter almond flour loaf, make almond flour zucchini bread. Just depends on what youre going for!

Daves Killer Bread Good Seed Thin

Daves Killer Bread is another brand youll see on most supermarket shelves, at least if youre in California. Its supposedly the most sold organic bread in the US.
I choose the Good Seed Thin-sliced bread for this review simply because it was the one with the lowest net-carb count my local store had available.
It definitely looks and feels like any ordinary slice of sandwich bread but I thought the slices were a little on the small size. I also found the taste a little too sweet and it hit my blood sugar pretty hard, which just didnt work for me, so I dont see myself buying this again.
Its a wheat and seed bread and also has a few grams of added sugar so it wont work for those looking to avoid gluten.

This is not the bread with the lowest carb count but it has been a staple of mine for years. It has a mild almost nutty flavor and it toats and smells just like a whole grain muffin.
Its made completely out of sprouted grains without any flour so it has a lower glycemic index than regular bread . That means that it should give less of a blood sugar spike than regular bread as it gets converted into glucose in the bloodstream slower. However, I often notice a relatively steep blood sugar impact when I eat this bread.
The serving size is the only other thing that really bothers me about this bread, as a serving is only ½ a muffin.
What Is Considered ‘low
While there is no strict definition of “low-carb,” dietitian Justine Chan, RD, CDE, says bread with fewer than 15 grams of carbs per serving can be considered low-carb, depending on the diet you’re following.
Low-carb diets come in many varieties, from fairly relaxed to very strict. Generally, there are three categories:
âRelaxed:â The USDA recommends adults get 45 to 65 percent of calories from carbs, or no less than 130 grams a day, according to the USDA. So, technically, a relaxed, low-carb diet could include an amount only slightly less than that â say 100 grams per day, or 40 percent of calories from carbs.
On this type of diet, people are usually just cutting out non-nutritive carbs, such as sugar and refined grains, but they will often include some whole grains. In that case, any type of whole-grain bread is a good option.
âModerate:â The middle ground is a diet that includes somewhere between 50 and 100 grams of carbs per day. There may be some wiggle room for grain foods, but not much. You might be able to include some breads made with high-fiber whole grains that have lower net carb counts, but you may also have to seek out very low-net carbs or zero-carb breads.
Instead of counting total carbs, tracking net carbs will give you the number of carbs your body actually digests.
