Refined carbohydrates are infamous for sending your blood-sugar levels through the roof, only for them to crash back down again. And recent research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that the rollercoaster ride activates addiction centers in the brain, leading to subsequent cravings. Opting for fiber-rich whole grains, though, can keep blood-sugar levels from plummeting to prevent cravings, says nutritionist Alex Caspero, R.D., owner of Delicious Knowledge.
Find out how to knock out fast food cravings:
The type of grains you cut makes a big difference here. For instance, a 2014 study published in PLOS ONE found that refined carbohydrates drive up the bodys levels of a fatty acid to raise the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, according to the American Heart Association, whole grains can improve blood-cholesterol levels and lower risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The choice is clear.
Whole grains are a great source of iron, magnesium, and B vitamins, all of which are critical in maintaining energy levels, says Spano, who notes that many people are already deficient in magnesium. Plus, since carbs are your bodys preferred fuel source, all of your cells slow down without a healthy supply, says Caspero.
Downsides Of White Bread
White bread is made of refined flour because, without the bran, white flour becomes tastier, softer, and easier to chew.
This feature also makes white flour fluffy and light, suitable for delicate pastries.
Refining will make this flour tastier but also will strip down all the nutritional value of wheat, providing you with empty calories .
Refined, it doesn’t contain any fiber, and it will get easily absorbed, triggering blood sugar spikes.
It’s the reason why white bread has low nutritional value and a high glycemic index .
“Just as we know there are good fats and unhealthy fats, there are good carbohydrates that are rich in fiber, and less helpful carbohydrates such as white bread, excessive intake of potato products, refined breakfast cereals, and the like.”
– David Ludwig, MD, Ph.D.
Consumption of food with a high glycemic index could lead to obesity and insulin resistance that could eventually cause type 2 diabetes.
A popular study from 2014. speaks in favor of this, showing that eating bread in amounts of just two slices daily lead to a 40% greater risk of obesity and weight gain . Moreover, other research shows that consumption of processed and refined foods contributes to more belly fat .
Surprisingly, besides physical, it could also impact your mental health since one study even showed a link between refined carbs consumption and depression in postmenopausal women .

Are You Wondering Whats Wrong With Wheat
The wheat they produce today is not like grandma and grandpa used to eat. Its been fiddled with so that its now very high in gluten, which of-course the bakers love. It causes their bread to rise light and fluffy, just the way most people like it. Its good for business. But its not doing your body any good. In fact, it acts like glue when it gets on the inside of you.
Do you remember or did you ever make home-made glue when you were a kid? Mix a bit of flour and water together made a really sticky substance which was fine for gluing different things. There are different ways to make glue but the basics of it is flour and water.
Your body struggles with all that glue. Yikes, why do we do it to ourselves?
I dont know if you know or not, but even eating breads that are gluten free is not necessarily the answer to the problem, due to the fact they have high glycemic values and in most cases, have been stripped of their fibre.
For me, the time had come when I didnt want to put up with it anymore. I thank God for the help that Ive received and I hope I can help you find an answer too.

A Radical Exercise Regime Is The Only Way To Lose Weight
Not true. Successful weight loss involves making small changes that you can stick to for a long time.
That means being more physically active in your daily routine. Adults should get at least 150 minutes of physical activity such as fast walking or cycling every week, and those who are overweight are likely to need more than this to lose weight.
To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. This can be achieved by eating less, moving more or, best of all, a combination of both.
Eating Bread Can Help You Lose Weight As Long As It’s High In Fibre
The trend for complete carb avoidance has significantly impacted our fibre intake.
For years bread has been blamed for piling on the pounds, outcast as a carb that is no good for the waistline. Yet new evidence suggests that provided you use your loaf and select the right variety bread is not only good for you but will help with weight loss. These welcome findings came from a study published recently in the journal Clinical Nutrition. Swedish researchers from the Chalmers University of Technology showed that substituting regular wheat with high fibre rye-based bread and cereals led to weight and body fat loss in a group of mostly middle-aged men and women.
Rikard Landberg, professor of food and health and lead author of the paper, asked half of his 242 overweight participants to eat a bowl of rye-based breakfast cereals, four to six slices of rye crispbread and 2-2.5 slices of soft rye bread every day while the others ate refined wheat versions with the same total calorie intakes. The critical difference was that the rye group got about 30g of fibre a day compared to just 8 grams obtained by the others, says Landberg. His goal was to determine how the switch affected their ability to shed pounds.
Theres a growing consumer demand for high-fibre bread. Research carried out by SuperValu in 2021 showed that sales of healthier bread options, including chia seed loaves, increased by 20%, with 45% of respondents saying they purchase bread once a week.

Since sandwiches generally require two slices of bread, we encourage you to give open-faced sandwiches a try.

These processes need energy and the amount of energy required varies between individuals depending on factors such as body size, age, gender and genes.
It is claimed that certain foods and drinks can increase your metabolism by helping the body to burn more calories and aid weight loss. There is little scientific evidence for this. Beware that some of these products may contain high levels of caffeine and sugar.

Added sugar is probably the worst thing in the modern diet. Excess amounts have been linked to some of the most serious diseases in the world today .
Foods high in added sugar usually provide tons of empty calories, but are not very filling.
Examples of foods that may contain massive amounts of added sugar include sugary breakfast cereals, granola bars and low-fat, flavored yogurt.
You should be especially careful when selecting low-fat or fat-free foods, as manufacturers often add lots of sugar to make up for the flavor thats lost when the fat is removed.
Added sugar is one of the unhealthiest ingredients in the modern diet. Many products, such as low-fat and fat-free foods, seem healthy but are loaded with sugar.

To Cheat Or Not To Cheat
For me, starting is always the biggest challenge, and to be honest, for the first few weeks, I cheated. With a salad, I would eat a piece of bread, or I would make pasta, replacing most of the noodles with green beans. However, after just a week of this pseudo bread-and-pasta-free diet, I found myself feeling so much better that it quickly turned into a strict bread and pasta ban. Instead, I ate more vegetables, fruit, and protein. The results were remarkable. I lost 15 pounds within four and a half months, but more importantly, I no longer felt bloated in the morning, and my thinking seemed to be much clearer. I was so much more energized. Somehow, I had never realized how lethargic I had been.
Losing Weight By Stopping Bread Consumption What Do Others Say
I first heard of the grain issue from Dr Mercola but I figured he was being way too out there. I mean, he also said he ate raw venison. Now please! So although I did take a lot of notice of what he said, I decided I didnt need to take notice of everything. Right?
Then I started to learn from some others. Geez, just maybe I should start to take a little bit more notice. So I decided to research it from every angle I could until my studies began to convince me they were really onto something.
